Yellow gold is most definitely making a comeback

As a kid growing up is eastern Canada, white gold was almost unheard of. We had plenty of Sears’s yellow gold jewellery! When I stared in the field and became a goldsmith, it was quite the opposite. People only wanted white gold, they regarded yellow gold as tasteless. Maybe it’s because of the tacky 10 karat low quality stuff we grew up with? I am not certain but what I clearly remember is what we made in jewellery workshops back then was 90 to 95% white gold. What our clients didn’t know in those days is that the large majority of goldsmiths and jewellery designers much prefer yellow gold, especially high karat like 18 karat. It has an indisputable lure and it is soooo wonderful to work with!

To our great pleasure, yellow gold has been back in style in a big way. Most young women getting married now wouldn’t be caught dead with a white gold wedding set. It’s been fascinating to observe, they speak exactly the same way as the woman 15 years ago but with reverse gold colour. They find white gold tacky and old fashioned but that yellow gold brings elegance and sophistication. This is enormously pleasing to me because not only do I agree but most important I get to work with my personal favorite, 18 karat yellow gold!
